What is The Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system is a collection of cell receptors (CB1 and CB2) and internal cannabinoids (anandamide and 2-AG) within our bodies. “Endo” meaning internal or within.

The ECS supports various biological tasks, including energy & balance, immune function, memory, metabolism, sleep, and the function of the autonomic nervous system.

What are Cannabinoids?

Phyto-cannabinoids are natural occurring compounds found in hemp as well as the human body. Cannabinoids, along with terpenes and flavonoids are the primary chemical compounds produced by the hemp plant. These compounds are key players within our endocannabinoid system (ECS) which helps regulate homeostasis and overall health. It exists within the immune system, central nervous system, and major organs.

Hemp produces more than 100+ different natural cannabinoids. Of the 100+ cannabinoids, Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most abundant.

What is Cannabidiol (CBD)?

CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is a critical phyto-cannabinoid (phyto, meaning from plant) found in hemp and known for supporting our mind and body in positive ways.

CBD specifically comes from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. *Not to be confused with oil that comes from hemp seeds, which contain no cannabinoids but are beneficial in other ways due to a healthy balance of omega 3 and 6’s among other nutrients.

Why it works: our bodies have a vast network of receptors within the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which are pivotal in helping us maintain overall wellness. CBD as well as other cannabinoids naturally interact with these receptors, helping maintain a healthier you.

What Serving of CBD should I take?

A number of factors determine your ideal CBD serving. This can include your weight, metabolism, genetics, nutrition, and physical activity. Because each individual’s endocannabinoid system is unique, some people may only require a small amount of CBD to receive their desired benefits, while others may require a much higher serving to experience similar effects.

If this is your first time trying CBD, we recommend starting with a few drops up to 10mg per day; increasing it later if needed.

1 drop of our 300mg/bottle formula equals 1mg.

With Spoonful’s everyday formulas, we suggest a 1/4 dropper twice a day. Provided is a 1ml graduated dropper for precise dosage based on your needs.

*A good rule of thumb when adding plant remedies to your lifestyle: stay consistent and listen to your bodies response. If you feel you’ve taken too much, drop down to a comfortable dose.

Is CBD psychoactive?

There’s a lot of confusion about the calming affects of CBD. In fact, there’s just as much confusion about its plant origin — Cannabis.

The plant genus Cannabis has a variety of species — hemp and marijuana being the two most common. They are both unique and distinctively different from one another: hemp is predominantly CBD (non-psychoactive) versus marijuana, which is predominantly THC (psychoactive). If you extract the cannabinoid-rich oil from both hemp and marijuana, you’ll have two completely different effects within your Endocannabinoid System; hemp will create a sense of calm and focus, whereas marijuana, alone, will leave you feeling high and euphoric.

For your relief, Spoonful’s organic herbal tinctures are formulated with hemp extract, helping you maintain a healthier, clearheaded, and more sustainable you.
